Built on ancient ruins, the building complex was constructed over the course of three distinctive eras (Turkish, Baroque and Classicist), and apart from minimal overlapping, it consists of three clearly distinguishable segments. The design concept emphasizes the long standing complexity and stratified nature of the existing architecture, with a focus on preserving the unique atmosphere of the different spaces and using the reconstruction and expansion to provide a sustainable and authentic solution that supports and invigorates the original function of the building.

The different wings of the building are each centered around a distinctive and characteristic space: the Turkish bath space, the Baroque courtyard and the Classicist garden are all defining elements of the spatial organization. The expansion will bring about two new and defining spaces: a covered, sky-lit, colonnaded bath space at the vacant end of the site, and a ‘secret’ garden for relaxation directly connected to the Turkish bath - a result of enclosing the currently undefined corner between Fő utca and Ganz utca. In addition, reconstructing the Turkish bath space, covering the Baroque courtyard and restoring its adjacent spaces, fine tuning the Classicist garden and colonnade and creating a new entrance hall and circulation system will result in spatial configurations with pronounced and complex atmospheres that will convey the long standing values  - the ‘spirit’ - of the bath and meet modern-day complex functional requirements using contemporary means.
